Readers!

I have successfully completed the first part of my assignment! What I had to do? Prepare a 1-2 minute presentation (or pitch) that displayed many factors. These factors included what my topic was, why I chose it, and my take home message. This was quite an interesting process to go through. I had researched pages and pages of information, yet I wasn’t quite sure which information would stick with people. My goal was for my peers to remember the main message I was dictating, and for them to realize that Genetically Modified Crops are a huge issue when discussing the sustainability of our planet. I read countless studies and reports, when I realized that what I was looking for wasn’t in shear facts and knowledge. Yes, it was important to include these, yet I knew my audience well. They need to be able to relate to something in order for it to be effective. So I did just that. I showed them GMO in our modern day lives, and they were surprised by the result. Genetically Modified Crops are all around us. I just had to open their eyes to see it. So many products nowadays include engineered foods. They just hadn’t realized it. I used this technique to my advantage, by showing my peers, and it was more successful than I ever could have imagined.

My presentation was well received, and even afterwards, I had friends who told me that they would definitely monitor what they were putting into their bodies. This first step of the overall assignment was quite interesting for me. I was able to learn about so many different ways that a presentation could stick with people. Not to mention, I was given the chance to learn about my topic itself, and now I am extremely well informed upon it. However, I am not done there. I am currently on to the next step of my project; creating a 5 Minute Ted Talk like presentation, displaying and distributing more information to my classmates. I am so excited for what my future in this class holds, and I will make sure to keep any of you readers posted on my progress!

Talk to you next time!

Noah
